Nova Scotia Power, an Emera subsidiary, issued a formal solicitation Wednesday for 50,000 mt to 100,000 mt, plus or minus 20%, of low-sulfur coal for delivery in the first three quarters of calendar year 2014. The utility is seeking coal with the following specifications on an as-received basis: moisture - 7% to 9%; ash - 7% to 9%; sulfur - 0.65% to 1.1%; volatile matter - 34% with a 30% minimum; and 10,800 Btu/lb to 13,400 Btu/lb.
