Rhino Resources plans to start Pennyrile coal mine in May

Rhino Resource Partners said Thursday it is accelerating development of its Pennyrile mine in Western Kentucky's McLean County, and hopes to begin producing coal in May, in order to begin deliveries in July. The company expects to ship 175,000 st from the mine in 2014. Rhino previously announced a five-year contract with a regional utility for 800,000 st annually from Pennyrile that will begin delivery in 2015. The company said it is also looking for additional customers for the mine, which is expected to have annual production of 2.4 million st when fully-operational in two years.
