In reference to the article 'Profit-driven testing' by Mark Collen.

I am writing in response to an article published in the 2012 Issue 1 of the journal, "Profit-Driven Drug Testing" written by Mark Collen,(l) a well-known patient advocate and the founder of PainExhibit.com. I want to first thank Mr. Collen for raising awareness about the potential for profit-driven medical decision-making and make it clear that there is no room in this industry for physicians or companies who are willing to compromise their ethics for financial gain. That said, it is critical that readers are presented this issue in context and understand that the vast majority of physicians utilize medication monitoring because of its clinical value as a key component of their treatment program.
