Fourier-transform Raman spectroscopy of biological molecules: weak intermolecular interactions

The low-frequency (50-150 cm(-1)) FT Raman spectra of the carbohydrate and protein series have been systematized for the first time. The spectra were measured with a Bruker IFS-88 spectrometer equipped with a FRA-106 Raman accessory. The excited light was the 1064 nm line of the Nd:YAG laser and laser power was 150 mW. In the spectra of compounds containing carboxyl, carbonyl, nitrate, acetate, sulfate, and other groups containing double bonds, for some kinds of regenerated cellulose and amide fibers, we have revealed strong bands assigned to inductive-type weak intermolecular interactions. The position and intensity of these bands depend on the structure of the compound being analyzed. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. [References: 22]
