Pha bioplastic reaching commercial scale

Two recent announcements underline the emergence of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) bioplastic on an industrial scale. Biochemistry firm Bio-on has announced that ?70 million is being invested in France, to establish a new industrial facility for the production of PHA bioplastic, based on sugar beet. At the same time, Canadian industrial biotechnology firm TerraVerdae BioWorks has announced a commercial facility for PHA bioplastic production, this time based on methanol.
