Spontaneous rupture of the spleen - a fatal complication of pregnancy.

Case report:A 35-year-old Caucasian woman who had two previous normal deliveries was booked under midwifery-led care in her third pregnancy. She had no significant past medical or family history. She had normal antenatal screening tests and scans. Her antenatal period was uneventful until 37 weeks' gestation when she presented with severe abdominal pain and circulatory shock. Fetal bradycardia of 54/min was detected and the patient underwent immediate laparotomy and caesarean section after appropriate resuscitation with blood and blood products.
