A field investigation was conducted in vertisol atcollege of Agriculture, Bheemarayanagudi during rabiseasons 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 to find the effect ofirrigation schedules and sand application on rabigroundnut pod yield and its effect on chemicalproperties of the soil and uptake of nutrients. Resultsindicated that scheduling of irrigations at preflowering, flowering, pegging, pod formation and podfilling stages along with sand mulching @ 45 t/ha orsand incorporation @ 45 t/ha recorded significantlyhigher pod yield of groundnut over no sandapplication with similar irrigation schedules. Highestnet return was realised in five irrigations at criticalstages with sand mulching @ 45 t/ha with B:C ratio of2.73 or sand incorporation @ 45 t/ha with B:C ratio2.61. The nutrient uptake was also higher in fiveirrigations at critical stages with sand mulching @ 45t/ha or sand incorporation @ 45 t/ha compared to nosand application. Sand application with five irrigationsat critical stages also improved the physicalconditions of the soil.
