A field experiment was conducted at Bangalore during summer seasons of 1997 and 1998 to study the effect of irrigation schedules and methods of herbicide application on weed biomass and pod yield of summer groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L ) Results indicated that inigation scheduled at 85 mm CPE (Cumulative Pan Evaporation) recorded significantly lower biomass of all types of weeds studied compared to scheduling irrigation at 60 mm CPE Reduction in biomass of weeds was significant with application of alachlor at 2 kg a.i through irrigation water compared to spraying of herbicides on soil. Interaction effect indicated significantly lower biomass of dicot and rnonocot weeds with irrigation scheduled at 85 mm CPE coupled with alachlor at 2 kg a i ha~(-1)through irrigation water as compared to all other treatment combinations. Pod yield of groundnut and weed control efficiency was also higher with the same treatment.
