Unilateral or bilateral deep brain stimulation.

摘要

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has become an important aspect of the treatment of medically intractable Parkinson disease (PD). Virtually all of the large prospective trials on DBS for PD have shown substantial efficacy and safety, including 2 recent reports from the multiin-stitutional trial sponsored by the Veterans Affairs and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). These 2 trials, and virtually all of the prospective trials of DBS for PD, have focused on bilateral DBS either in the subthalamic nucleus (STN) or globus pallidus internus (GPi) as the procedure under study.
