Making responsible and verifiable claims about environmental impact and sustainability has become a priority for the bioplastics industry. Across the supply chain there is fear that a lack of standardisation could leave brand owners and consumers confused about the environmental credentials, end-of-life disposal guidelines, and other sustainability factors associated with these materials. various bodies have called for members of the industry to take responsibility for the claims they make. Notably, european Bioplastics published a document in september 2012, the Environmental Communications Guide for Bioplastics, which gives various examples of good and bad practice.
