Interaction of Ganoderma lucidum with Rhizobium

Ganoderma lucidum is found to attack most species belonging to family Leguminosae in forests. These host species also possess Rhizobium in root nodules. Interaction between G. lucidum, a serious root rot pathogen of trees and root nodule forming bacterium Rhizobium in the roots was studied. Rhizobium was found to have a stimulatory effect on the growth of G. lucidum. Germination of the basidiospores of G. lucidum, which is rarely reported, was also noticed in the presence of Rhizobium. These studiesestablish that there exists a synergistic compatibility between G. lucidum and Rhizobium.
