Natural incidence of entomopathogenic fungi in North East India.

Five districts of Assam, India: Jorhat, Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Kamrup and Nalbari located in 3 agroclimatic zones (Upper Brahmaputra valley zone, North Bank plain zone and Lower Brahmaputra valley zone), were surveyed for incidence of entomopathogenic fungi during 2011-12. Cropping systems such as agricultural, horticultural, sericultural fields were taken into consideration for the survey at the peak stage of each crop. Four species of entomogenous fungi (Metarhizium anisopliae, Beauveria bassiana, Nomuraea rileyi and Fusarium spp.) were isolated from 8 insect species (Myzus persicae, Toxoptera aurantii, Aphis craccivora, Hieroglyphus banian, Odontotermes obesus, Spodoptera litura, Bemisia tabaci and Aphis gossypii). Data on pathogenicity test for the isolated fungi on their respective insect host confirmed their pathogenic relationship with a varying degree of infectivity.
