STUDY OF PHYSICO-CHEIWICAL ANALYSIS OF ANAEROBICALLY DIGESTED DISTILLERY SPENT AND ITS EFFECT ON SEED GERMINATION, SEEDLING GROWTH AND PEROXTOASE ACTIVITY OF WHEAT (TRUJCUM AESTJVUM (L)).

摘要

Distilleries producing aicohal from molasses are considered to be one of the most polluting agro based industries. They generate large volume of foul smell, colored waste. Water known as spent wash or stillage with high' organic load. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of distillery effluent at different concentrations viz, 5, 15, 25, 35, 50, 75 and 100 per cent (v/v) on seed germination, seedling growth, Seedling fresh weight and dry weight of wheat. Germination percentage, Seedling growth and fresh weight and dry weight increased upto 35 per cent effluent concentration. Germination was found nil in 100, 75, 50 and 35 percent effluent due to toxicity. Germination was 50 percent in 25 per cent effluent but seeding did not survived properly. Diluted Effluent (15 per cent and 5 per cent) showed less peroxidase activity and higher, chlorophyll content (a and b), sugar and protein content over undiluted effluent. However, results of the study suggest that distillery effluent maybe used for irrigation after diluting the effluent to 85 per cent and strongly requires treatment to detoxify the effluent.
