Crandall Canyon on final longwall panels

The Crandall Canyon mine, a Utah joint venture of Andalex Resources and the intermountain Power Agency, is getting close to its final longwall panel before it has to revert to a room-and-pillar mine.Andalex, the mine operator, has said Crandall Canyon will run out of longwall coal in 2003, but hasn't been more specific on timing. Local officials said the mine has about a month left on Panel 17 in the south area of the mine. Then there is 9-10 months of mining in Panel 18. That takes the mine to next spring.
