LIEBHERR--The Liebherr T282B--Another Success Story

With attentive service support and utilizing an Internet based downtime and availability tracking tool, the newly commissioned fleet of Liebherr T282B mining haul trucks have exceeded expectations at TransAlta's Highvale Mine, west of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. A fleet of six Liebherr 363 metric tonnes (400 short tons), 3650hp AC drive mining haul trucks operate at Highvale Mine, one of TransAlta's two mining operations. This operation is a sub-bituminous coal strip mine and has been in operation since 1970. Average temperatures on site range from -7.3 deg C to -16 deg C in the winter to 12.1 deg C to 22.8 deg C in the summer. This climate yields moderate spring, summer and fall seasons while the winter season can be extremely cold and requires special provisions for equipment to operate effectively. The temperature and climate characteristic of Highvale are similar to those of the various operations in northern Alberta mining the oil rich tar sands.
