HOUSE-TO-HOUSE AT CHRISTMAS TIME

Christmas is a time of gladness and a time of sadness. Some of us are saddened when we think of our lost loved ones, while some of us live vicariously through the joy of our children and grandchildren. Memories click in our minds like a camera of nostalgic flashbacks. My neighborhood and, in particular, my house, for days smelled of fried fish, holiday cookies, fried bread and my mom's famous "bacala stufata" or fish stew. By suppertime on Christmas Eve our appetites were screaming.
