Formation of PbO powder by hydrothermal oxidation of granular Pb metal

To date, numerous types of lead storage batteries have been developed to meet a wide variety of technical requirements [1,2]. The basic active materials of these batteries is lead dust, which is a mixture of PbO (65 to 85%) and a metallic lead. Therefore, the preparation of PbO powder is important to the lead battery industry. At present two types of process are used in practice for producing lead dusts [3]: one is pulverization and oxidation of granular lead in ball mills, the other is oxidation of sprayed liquid lead according to the Baron process. In the ball mill process, the oxidation rate of lead granules is low, and a long reaction time is needed. In the Barton process, the oxidation of sprayed liquid lead is carried out at high temperature (250-400 ℃). Since lead vaporizes easily at high temperature, it leads to an. inevitable environmental pollution problem.
