摘要

Throughout the world’s oceans, coral reefs are in decline due to pollution, climate change, overfishing, and disease. As archaeologists focused on historical ecology and island and coastal environments, these issues are a major concern to us for a number of reasons. Human impacts disturb both cultural and biological resources. Those of us who work in indigenous communities can see the impacts of reef degradation firsthand as our collaborators and friends struggle to make a living, be it on a subsistence economy or as employees in the tourist industry.
