摘要

Carbon fibre reinforced carbon composites (carbon-carbon composites) are employed in aerospace applications due to their excellent properties at elevated temperatures [1-3]. However, one of the serious drawbacks with these materials is that carbon in any form undergoes oxidation even at temperatures as low as 500 °C [4-6]. To overcome this problem, coatings of oxidation inhibitors or oxidation-resistant materials are given to these materials and also on the carbon fibres which are used as reinforcing material [7-12]. Recently, efforts have been made to introduce oxidation-resistant materials or the precursors for these materials into the matrix employed in the synthesis of carbon-carbon composites [4, 13, 14]. Reports are also available on the fabrication of C-SiC composites [15-17].
