Balancing mechanisms patented by Lanchester and Mitsubishi are considered, as well as single- and double-shaft mechanisms of mass-produced piston engines. A calculation method is proposed for the two-shaft mechanism, which balances not only the first-order inertial forces of masses in translational motion but also the first-order reactive torque. The vibrational loading of the motor due to pulsation of the reactive torque under the combined action of gas forces and inertial forces is taken into account. The effectiveness of balancing is considered over the whole range of motor speeds.
