The 16th Foreign Affairs Lecture on the Agricultural Infrastructure Improvement and Rural Development in Southeast Asia

The 16th Foreign Affairs Lecture was held January 28, 2000 on the subject "Agricultural Infrastructure Improvement and Rural Development in Southeast Asia" at Nogyo-Doboku kaikan. This lecture has been organized around this time every year by the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Japanese Society of Irrigation, Drainage and Reclamation Engineering. This year, about 100 agricultural engineers from all parts of Japan participated in the lecture to carry out heated discussions. Three specialists made speeches - Dr. Apichart of Thailand's National Water Resource Committee, Mr. Yasunobu Matoba, ex-Secretary General of the Mekong River Commission, and Professor Yoshihiro Kaida at the Southeast Asia Center of Kyoto University. The following summarizes their lectures and discussions on the subjects.
