For decades, the mere mention of nuclear power conjured up negative images of Chernobyl and Three Mile Island, catastrophes that drove home the point of how deadly nuclear power generation can be when things go awry. However, after years of being out of favor, nuclear power generation is enjoying a revival of sorts. Utilities are pulling dusty plans for nuclear power plant construction off of the shelves, and giving the prospect serious consideration. Political leaders, including "green" Democrats and even some environmentalists are clamoring for new nuclear power plant construction in the United States and around the world. Why is this happening?
