Uncertainty in the global financial market is certainly taking a toll on met coal producers,and to a lesser degree thermal coal producers.An ever-growing list of steel mills and utilities is requesting that coal producers delay deliveries until a true determination concerning FY2009 demand can be assessed."We've never experienced a financial crisis of this magnitude/'a steel official told Coal Americas."We aren't certain how long this downturn will last and it is difficult to gauge at this point how it will affect steel production.Until we are certain how much steel we will produce,it is impossible for us to determine how much coal we will need.All I can say for certain is that we will be producing less steel in 2009,so coal demand will be lower than last year.We don't see a quick resolution to this(financial crisis)."
