Addictions

I wish to discuss a study I did about addictions (Eisenman, Dantzker, &Ellis, 2004). To what degree do addictions to drugs, sex, love, and food cor-relate with each other? Are there meaningful sex differences in the addic-tions? To study this, we looked at 9313 college students (3083 males, 6230females) in the United States and Canada, who rated 13 items on 0-100 scalesfor their dependency/addiction to the things represented by the items.Results indicated that males reported significantly stronger addictions thandid females, except for cigarettes, chocolate, and food in general. Results alsoshowed consistent intercorrelations, typically in the .20s or .30s, but some-times even higher.
