COMPARATIVE EFFICACY OF CHLORANTRANILIPROLE AND INDOXACARB FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF HELICOVERPA ARMIGERA IN BERSEEM (TRIFOLIUM ALEXANDRIUM) SEED CROP

Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is one of the most dreaded pest of many agricultural crops worldwide having more than 182 host plant species reported in India. During summer 2012, studies were conducted to manage this pest at three locations each in district Patiala and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar on farmer's fields. Berseem (Trifolium alexandrium), sown during the month of October-November 2011 and last cutting was left and the crop was kept for seed purpose. Chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SL @ 125 ml/ha was compared with the existing recommended insecticides, Indoxacarb 15 EC @ 500 ml/ha along with untreated plot and data on the pest infestation was recorded after 2 and 7 days of spray. The results revealed that the new molecule was at par in the management of pod borer with the indoxacarb in both of the districts. Number of attacked pods and larvae present recorded before spray was 3.59-3.95 per cent at all the locations, while a reduction was recorded after two days (0.28-0.32%as compared to 2.78% in untreated), 7 days (0.24-0.31 % as compared to 2.41 % in untreated). Similarly, the significant higher yield over untreated was also observed (155.93-158.60Kg as compared to 64.12Kg/Ac in untreated).
