BIO-EFFICACY OF INSECTICIDES AGAINST TEAK DEFOLIATOR, HYBLAEA PUERA CRAMER AND TEAK SKELETONIZER, EUTECTONA MACHAERALIS WALKER

Studies were carried out at Karaboh nursery of Chhindwara district, Madhya Pradesh during 1999-2001 to evaluate bio-efficacy of insecticides of chemical and botanical origin against teak defoliator, Hyblaea puera Cramer and teak skeletonizer, Eutectona machaeralis Walker. On the basis of observations on the number of H. puera larvae/quadrate during first trial in 1999-00, it was observed that monocrotophos and acephate were the most effective. These, although, were not significantly different from those of profenofos, triazophos, quinalphos and endosulfan, but differed significantly from that of lambda-cyhalothrin and azadirachtin. Acephate was the most effective one. It was on par with monocrotophos. Azadirachtin was the least effective and statistically on par with control. During 1999-2000, all the treatments against E. machaeralis were found effective over control, 7 days after spray. Monocrotophos was the best followed by acephate, and the latter was statistically on par with monocrotophos. Lambda-cyhalothrin and Achook~R were least effective and statistically on par with control. Comparable trends have also been noticed in second year trial 2000-01. Acephate was the least expensive.
