The ethnicity of Hakka is associated with a higher risk of hypertension than Fukienese in Taiwanese type 2 diabetic patients.

摘要

This study investigated whether the ethnicity of Hakka with type 2 diabetes mellitus could have a higher risk of hypertension than their Fukienese counterparts in Taiwan. The data of 78396 (70122 Fukienese and 8274 Hakka) adult patients obtained from telephone interview were analysed. Results showed that the Hakka had a significantly higher prevalence of hypertension (56.8 vs 52.9%, P<0.001) with an adjusted odds ratio of 1.19(1.11-1.27).
