The authors describe an F-18 FDG PET scan, which demonstrates 2 synchronous primary lung malignancies. An 81-year-old male with a history of prostate and bladder cancer presented with a left nodular opacity on a chest radiograph. Further workup including an evaluation with a PET scan revealed intense FDG uptake in a left lower lobe mass and moderate FDG uptake in a right middle lobe opacity. Subsequent pathology revealed adeno-carcinoma of the right middle lobe and squamous cell carcinoma of the left lower lobe. The characterization and diagnosis of 2 synchronous primary tumors were suggested by PET.
