Oral steroid versus steroid pulse therapy for autoimmune pancreatitis: Time to introduce new weapons

Sir,Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) was first described by Sarles et al. in 1961 in a patient with pancreatitis and hypergammaglobulinemia. However, Yoshida et al. used the term autoimmune pancreatitis for the first time. The Mayo Clinic and Japanese Pancreas Society have proposed criteria based on the histology, imaging, serology, and other organ involvement that are generally used to diagnose AIP. A constellation of elevated IgG4 level, lym-phoplasmacytic sclerosing pancreatitis in histology, and other organ involvement such as cholangitis and tubulo-interstitial nephritis may raise suspicion of AIP.
