As Clinical Scholars Review: The Journal of Doctoral Nursing Practice enters its fourth year of publication, it is my privilege to assume the role of editor. In 2008, when the first issue was published, 52 schools of nursing were accepting students into doctor of nursing practice (DNP) programs, and another 140 schools were considering starting programs (Smith, 2008). The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) had published the Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice, which formed the basis of the DNP curriculum (AACN, 2006). It was during these exciting times when the need for this journal became apparent.
