In Memory of Dr. Richard Lawrence Ash

Dr. Richard Lawrence Ash Sr., age 86, of Springfield, Mo., passed away November 5, 2007 in the home of his daughter, Rebecca, and son-in-law, Larry Schmickle, in Republic, Mo. He was born August 12, 1921 in Seattle, Washington. Richard served his country junior officer aboard a destroyer in the Pacific Theatre then worked from 1945 to 1960 for the Atlas Powder Company. In 1960 he went to work as a professor of Mining Engineering at the Missouri School of Mines & Metallurgy (MSM) which later became the University of Missouri at Rolla (UMR). He taught there for 26 years.
