A COMPARATIVE HAEMATOLOGICAL STUDY ON A FEW FRESH WATER FISHES OF PILLI RESERVOIR

A comparative haematological study on ten fresh water fishes i.e. Osteobrama cotio, Rasbora daniconis, Botia dario, Mystus teengara, Oxygaster bacilla, Labeo gonius, Lepidocephalichthys gunta, Puntius conchonius, Channa gachua and Mastacembelius armatus revealed that the TEC, Hb content and PCV are highest in Labeo gonius and Channa gachua. The ranges of different haematological parameters of the ten species are : TEC 2.09 to 4.30 x 106 / cmm, TLC 6129.22 TO 8960.0 C/MM, Hb content 8.70 to 13.40 gm%,ESR 1.10 to 2.40 mm/hour, PCV 28.20 to 34.30%, MCV 150.00 to 189.2 mm3, MCHC 28.00 to 34.62% and MCH 28.10 to 35.10 pg.
