Recent visitations by eels to Sable Island, Canada, confirmed by parasites

Immature stages of Proteocephalus macrocephalus were identified in 1994 in Pungitius pungitius, Apeltes quadracus, Gasterosteus aculeatus and Fundulus heteroclitus collected from ponds on Sable Island, east of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is considered that this confirms that this parasite was seeded in the ponds by Anguilla rostrata en route from the mainland to its spawning grounds.
