For body shop owners, the odds of having a workplace safety inspection are higher than usual right now. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has stepped up inspections of body shops nationwide as part of a 3-year emphasis (until mid-2016) on protecting workers from isocyanate exposure. Isocyanates are a family of chemicals found in some paint products (most commonly clearcoats, but also some primers and basecoats) and are linked to respiratory disease, such as asthma.
