Nineteen early-maturing dwarf field pea genotypes and 13 late-maturing field pea genotypes were screened against pea leaf miner (Chromatomyia horticola) and pea pod borer (Etiella zinckenella) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, during the 2000/01 rabi season. The leaf miner damage in early-maturing genotypes ranged from 14.3 to 36.3% in the genotypes DDR 49 and HFP 8909, respectively. On the other hand, in late-maturing genotypes, it ranged from 9.1 to 20% in IPF 98-18 and HUP-19, respectively. The percent pod damage by pod borer ranged from 1 to 4% in early-maturing genotypes. It was 1% in the genotypes Pant P-11, HUDP-15, LFP-283, KPMR 526 and KPMR 593, and 4% in HUDP 17. In the late-maturing genotypes, it ranged from 1% in the genotypes DMR 38 and IPF 98-18 to 7.7% in KPMR 551. Grain yield in early-maturing genotypes ranged from 410 kg/ha (Pant P-11) to 2250 kg/ha (KPMR 593) whereas in late-maturing genotypes, it ranged from 340 kg/ha (DMR 39 and KPMR 557) to 1140 kg/ha (KPMR 497). None of the genotypes was completely free from pest infestation. However, late-maturing genotypes showed significantly less leaf miner infestation than early-maturing genotypes. Early-maturing genotypes showed less pod borer infestation compared to late-maturing genotypes. The early-maturing genotype KPMR 593 showed the least pod borer attack and gave the highest yield (2250 kg/ha).
