Taxonomic significance of internal male reproductive organs of three Indian species of genus Areas Walker (Arctiidae: Lepidoptera).

The internal male reproductive organs of Areas trigonalis, Areas orientalis and Areas galactina are examined and illustrated based on samples collected from different sites in the northeastern state of India from September 1999 to September 2003. The study of internal male reproductive organs revealed that in all three species, the opening of cuticular tube into aedeagus is lateral in position and the constrictor muscular area is curved. Based on this, it can be inferred that all three species are congeneric and is a homogeneous group.
