Closure to “Estimating Joint Failure Probability of Series Structural Systems”by Yan-Gang Zhao, Wei-Qiu Zhong,and Alfredo H. S. Ang

The writers appreciate the discusser’s interest in their work. As has been shown in the paper, the object of the paper is to develop a point estimation method without any integration for calculating the joint probability of every pair of failure modes, which is required in commonly used “narrow” bound for the failure probability of series systems Ditlevsen 1979. The bound for trivariate integrals, pointed out by the discusser, was not included in the paper since it is not directly related to the commonly used “narrow” bound, which is the object of the paper. It would be better to have a title to reflect this fact.
