摘要

I have read with great interest the article of Hashem and Hassanien "ProRoot MTA, MTA-Angelus, and IRM Used to Repair Large Furcation Perforations: Sealability Study" (1). This study evaluates the sealing ability of mineral tri-oxide aggregate (MTA) and intermediate restorative material (IRM) in large furcation perforations with and without an internal matrix. However, the method used to assess leakage is dye extraction with methylene blue. Al-though the authors state that "the dye-extraction method seems to be a reliable technique," methylene blue was previously shown to react with MTA. For example, Wu et al (2) reported significant discoloration of methylene blue 1% after 24 hours of contact with MTA-filled roots.
