Effects of cultural and nutritional parameters were investigated on production of xylanase from Streptomyces cyaneus SN32. Effects of different C sources, including sugars and agro-food industry wastes were tested, as were various organic and inorganic sources of N. Production of the xylan degrading enzyme using most of the tested wastes as a C source was greater than when commercial xylan was used. Production was highest when wheat bran was used as a C source, followed by corn cobs. Utilization of corn stalks, gram husks and black gram husks was also effective. The best N source was peptone. Under optimal conditions, a xylanase yield of 720 IU/ml was observed.
