I am never sure whether to laugh or cry when I think about the first nursing course I taught years ago. Every ounce of my inexperience was revealed as I hid behind a podium, kept my head down, and read from my notes—which were little more than an outline of the textbook—for several hours! It's a wonder that any students stayed awake much less learned anything. How different that experience was compared to the interactive discussions I have with students these days.
