Healing, Healthcare, Missions, and the Church

Churches throughout history have modeled ministry on Jesus' life of reaching out, teaching, preaching, and healing. Kampala Baptist Church (KBC) in Uganda is one such church that works to care spiritually and physically for their community. Partnering with local healthcare providers and short- and long-term healthcare missionaries, the church is transforming lives. As early as the 4th century, Basil the Great of Cappadocia, responding to a famine in Turkey, built a compound that included a church, a hostel for travelers, and a hospital for the sick. This is one of the earliest examples in Christian history of a church community dedicating itself to spiritual and physical needs (Morgan, 2008). Today, in Uganda, the people of Kampala Baptist Church (KBC) seek to meet needs in a similar manner.
