Laser vision correction among physicians: 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'

Laser vision correction (LVC) is performed on almost one million patients per year in the United States. For the most part, it is a highly successful surgery with high levels of safety and predictability. Surveys have shown that the level of patient satisfaction following LVC is greater than 95%. The high rate of satisfaction, as well as the relative safety and efficacy of LVC procedures, has led all branches of the United States military and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to adopt LVC as a way to improve functioning and performance. However, there is a perception among patients that physicians in general, and ophthalmologists in particular, will not have LVC themselves.
