In his comment Atkinson outlines the increasing role of the HIV nursing consultant and values the approach from the patients' perspective. He mentioned that 'the QUOTE-HIV is a modified version of a scale designed to measure patient perceptions of care quality for use in other specialties'. We do not completely understand what he means, since the QUOTE-HIV is especially developed for and in collaboration with HIV-patients. The QUOTE-HIV cannot be used in other disease groups. It is true that the QUOTE-HIV contains 10 generic aspects that are used in all other QUOTE questionnaires like the QUOTE-COPD, and the QUOTE rheumatic diseases. But these generic items were also mentioned in the focus group discussions that were held with HIV-patients during the development phase of the QUOTE-HIV. The QUOTE-HIV is not a modified version but a specially developed questionnaire for a specific group of patients using the QUOTE concept.
