An unusual cause of paraparesis and depression.

A 69-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a 2-week history of progressive gait impairment. She had also suffered refractory depression and insomnia for 1 year. The neurological examination revealed a spastic paraparesis with ataxia. The Mini Mental State Examination score was 23/30. Figs. 1 and 2 show the brain MRI findings.
