Bucking the trend with buccal mucosa: long-term durability of substitution buccal mucosa graft ureteroplasty in the management of a difficult anastomotic stricture following trans-ureteroureterostomy

Anastomotic strictures following trans-ureteroureterostomy (TUU) are a challenging problem. Traditional surgical solutions are associated with significant morbidity. Complications of ileal interposition include bowel obstruction, metabolic derangement, mucous obstruction and secondary malignancy. Renal auto-transplantation is a major undertaking, and is associated with renal loss. Although buccal mucosal graft (BMG) has gained popularity in ure-thral reconstruction, its use is sparingly reported in the management of ureteric strictures. To date, the maximum published follow-up is 39 months .
