摘要

Although nonlinear optical effects are of increasing importance in science (e.g., multiphoton spectroscopy) and in industry (e.g., new UV sources for photolithography), laboratory experiments providing undergraduate students experience beyond the usual linear forms of spectroscopy are rare. One attractive physical chemistry experiment, describded by Grant and Hardwick (1), invvles the nonlinear generation of intense stimulated Raman radiation when a pulsed laser beam is focused into a dense medium that has a molecular vibrational transition of high Raman intensity.
