摘要

A chemical sensor (1) is a device that responds to varying concentrations of a chemical species of interest. Ion-selective electrodes are based on membranes that can be tailored to choose and transport ions with a selected charge sign or a particular ion among others of the same charge. These electrodes have been developed rapidly in the past 35 years with promising innovations still on the horizon (2). There is no doubt that the combined glass pH electrode has been and still is one of the most popular, successful, and useful ion-selective electrode that exists; nevertheless, it has several drawbacks, one of which is the fragility of its glass bulb (3). The electrode is a complete cell composed of reference and indicator electrodes (4). Inside the hydronium-responsive part is a silver wire dipping into a solution of ca. 0.1 M HCl.
