Analysis of Carbon Monoxide in Blood

One of the routine forensic analyses performed in toxicology laboratories is the qualitative and quantitative analysis of carbon monoxide in blood. Carbon monoxide poisoning can result from suicide, from homicide (including arson), or by accident (including house fires). In any fatality involving a fire, it is important to known whether the death was caused directly by the fire or by smoke inhalation resulting in carbon monoxide asphyxiation.
