Intraoperative Localization of Paravalvular Mitral Prosthetic Regurgitation by 3-Dimensional Color-Flow Transesophageal Echocardiography

A 56-year-old patient presented for the second reoperation on a paravalvular leak of a mitral valve prosthesis. After the replacement of the aortic and mitral valves in 1994, a surgical revision for closure of a paravalvular leak of the mitral valve prosthesis was undertaken in 1996, followed by replacement of the prosthesis with a St Jude 31-mm mechanical mitral valve prosthesis in 2005. However, the reoccurrence of paravalvular regurgitation with severe hemolysis again required intervention. The attempt at a transvenous septa! catheter occlusion was not successful so the patient had to undergo the second replacement of the mitral valve prosthesis in 2007.
