The development of an automatic and continuous refractory maintenance system for EAF has eliminatedthe disadvantages inherent in intermittent refractory maintenance. The system consists of a laserscanner to measure the residual refractory thickness and the robotic maintenance system. These componentsare linked together by means of an interface module, which evaluates the measurement data andcontrols the robotic maintenance unit, such that the required amount of the correct repair material isautomatically applied to the required position.
